A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, Frederick High is the oldest school in Frederick County. Located in a beautiful setting adjacent to the City of Frederick’s Baker Park, the school’s diverse population reflects its surrounding dynamic community.
Frederick High School’s tradition of excellence began in 1891 with girls and boys attending school in different buildings and matriculation occurring after three years. The current facility opened in 1939.
Approximately 90% of the students attend community college, four-year College or business or technical schools. The student SAT scores continue to outdistance the average of those in the state of Maryland and the nation. Frederick High School is proud of the Advanced Placement record in which over 75% of the students taking the AP exams earn college credit via their scores.
The students are an integral part of the decision-making process through their participation in over 50 clubs and activities, the Student Government Association, and membership on the School Improvement Team. The community, staff and students value the richness of diversity of our school. We continue to take pride in our competitive teams both athletically and academically.
Our school motto is the basis for our school’s vision: “Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve.”

The city of Frederick has completed Rock Creek Trail! One can now walk, run, cycle, skate, skip or jump from The Frederick Fairgrounds, along Carroll Creek Linear Park, through Frederick’s beautiful Baker Park all the way to 40 West or what us locals call “The Golden Mile’ along Rock Creek Park.” Along the way you will enjoy various parks and beautiful green spaces. End to end the path is about 5 miles in length. You pass the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum then go under route 15 on the widened sidewalk you will see the new tunnel that passes under the route 15 entrance ramp at Rosemont Ave. This new part of the path was worth waiting for. The green spaces, the new foot bridge, the trees with interpretive signage, and the careful way it all goes together, shows that a huge amount of thought and preparation went into this, the longest Frederick City trail.
