The City of Frederick has opened application for a second round of the “Back In Business Conditional Microgrant Program” with expanded eligibility in order to assist additional local small businesses impacted by the economic challenges of COVID-19.
Expanded criteria for Round Two eligibility includes:
Employee count may be up to 50 FTEs (full time equivalent); Maximum award will increase from $6,000 to $11,000
Applicant must be able to show a decrease in July 2020 revenue as compared to July 2019. This is a removal of the Round One requirement to demonstrate 25% loss of revenue for this period.
Applicants may now have received local grants previously via other City/County grants; applicants will have to adhere to guidelines regarding allowable expenditures for which the grant award may be applied.
The ‘Round Two’ application window will remain open until noon on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Want to make history by being a part of the first “Great Frederick Scavenger Hunt” (9/5 – 12/20) – a city-wide, multi-day, socially-distanced entertainment experience brought to you by Celebrate Frederick, The City of Frederick, and Surelocked In Escape Games? All interested businesses should contact Chris Sparks at escape@surelockedin.com to become a part of the game!
What is this event?
A socially-distanced, safe way for families and folks to celebrate Frederick City in the absence of traditions like In The Streets and The Great Frederick Fair
A partnership between Celebrate Frederick, The City of Frederick, and Surelocked In Escape Games
A free game that allows all registered players to test their wits and compete for prizes as they scour the City to its limits
What we need from you:
No money – this is a free event for all participating businesses/organizations
A time to visit your establishment to craft a unique clue for players to solve (that they can’t Google)
Your help promoting this event on social media
The donation of a unique prize (no more that $20 in value) that will inspire the winner(s) to return to your business after the game concludes
For you to continue to operate as normal during the week of the game (so people can come to you)
What will happen next:
You reach out to Chris Sparks (escape@surelockedin.com) with your availability for a 5 minute site visit between 8/28 and 9/4 and the answer to this question: “given that all COVID safety measures are being observed, are you comfortable with players entering your business for the game?”
Standby to receive confirmation of the visit
Greet a Surelocked In Game Master at the time of the visit onsite
A new Indian restaurant has opened at the old Frederick Towne Mall, in the location of the former Ground Round. Taj Mahal Grill & Bar opened on July 9 and has been serving up traditional Indian fare with social distancing measures in place since.
Owner Indarjeet Yadav formerly owned an Indian restaurant in Rockville, which he sold several years ago. He’s lived in Ballenger Creek for the last six years and decided to start another restaurant, this time in Frederick.
The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and will have a lunch buffet once it becomes safe, Yadav said. They currently serve bottled wine and beer but will soon have a full bar as well as draft beer. The restaurant is still looking to hire kitchen help and a bartender.
